The Entry Apprentis Capability Score (Entry ACS) helps schools understand how prepared students are to explore, pursue and secure apprenticeship opportunities. It provides an additional readiness view alongside careers conversations, adviser judgement, academic information and existing progression activity.

Exploration and awareness
For younger students, the emphasis is exploration, awareness and pathway understanding. The objective is not to move younger students prematurely into applications. It is to make apprenticeships a credible and understood progression route.
Years 12-13 and college learners
Application preparation
For post-16 learners, the focus can move towards employer discovery, application preparation, interviews and selection readiness.
Entry ACS supports development and professional judgement.
It is not an admissions tool, automated employer-selection gate or permanent student label.
What apprenticeship-ready means
An apprenticeship-ready student: understands the route they are pursuing; can identify relevant opportunities; can communicate their strengths and experiences; is prepared for applications and selection; has clear next actions and understands what remains to develop.
It does not mean the student is a finished candidate. It means they approach progression with greater understanding, preparation and ownership.

Years 9-11
Explore
Help students understand apprenticeships, challenge misconceptions and connect their interests with sectors, roles and future pathways. The objective is not to move younger students prematurely into applications. It is to make apprenticeships a credible and understood progression route.
Years 12-13 and college learners
Prepare
Help students identify relevant opportunities, strengthen applications and prepare for competitive recruitment processes. Support can include employer discovery, application guidance, interview preparation, assessment-centre practice and personalised readiness planning.
Leavers and recent alumni
Progress
Continue supporting students who remain interested in apprenticeships after leaving the institution. Learners can retain access to guidance, employer discovery, application resources and relevant opportunities while progressing towards a confirmed destination.
